Is Ocean City really a dry town?
Yes - Ocean City has been dry since its founding in 1879. There are no bars or liquor stores in town, and restaurants do not serve alcohol. Most visitors stock up in Somers Point just over the bridge; many restaurants are fine with discreet BYO at dinner, but ask first.
Do I need beach tags in Ocean City?
Beach tags are required from late May through Labor Day for anyone 12 and up. Weekly and seasonal tags are the best value for renters, sold at City Hall, the Music Pier and beach entrances. Many rentals hang a set by the door - check before you buy.
Which end of Ocean City is best for a quiet week?
The Gardens at the north end and the high-50s streets southward are the quietest residential stretches. The middle of the island around the boardwalk (6th-14th) is liveliest. Bay-side blocks anywhere trade beach proximity for sunsets and calmer evenings.
When is the boardwalk busiest?
July and August evenings from about 7pm are peak - the classic routine is beach until 5, dinner, then boardwalk. If you want mini-golf without lines, go before 6pm or pick a weeknight early in the season.
