Do I need beach tags in Cape May?
Yes - Cape May requires beach tags from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day for everyone 12 and older. Daily, three-day, weekly and seasonal tags are sold at beach entrances and City Hall; many rentals include a set of seasonal tags, so check your listing before buying.
When should I book a Cape May rental?
Victorian-district houses within three blocks of the beach book out for July and August by late winter. For peak weeks, book by February or March; June and September have real availability much later and noticeably lower rates.
Is Cape May walkable without a car?
The historic district is one of the most walkable places on the shore - beach, Washington Street Mall, and most restaurants are within a fifteen-minute walk of each other. You only really need a car for Sunset Beach, the lighthouse, and the wineries north of town.
What is there to do on a rainy day in Cape May?
The Emlen Physick Estate runs house tours year-round, Cape May Stage and the Chalfonte host performances in season, and the Washington Street Mall covers a solid afternoon of shops and cafés. Winery and brewery tastings just outside town are the classic bad-weather fallback.
